Changes to Tax Parameters & Pensions
In Payroll, there may be occasions where you need to update a worker’s details after an enrolment or contribution has already been submitted to Nest Pensions.
PurePro is committed to supporting accurate payroll and pension processing; However, if a worker’s tax details change, including the addition or correction of a National Insurance number, it is important that all related information is kept consistent. This includes the worker’s pension records.
The following scenario illustrates this example:
A worker joins the payroll and is enrolled in the pension scheme, but their National Insurance number has not yet been provided.
The worker is paid, and a 5% pension contribution is deducted.
An enrolment API call is submitted, and the worker is marked in the Nest portal as not eligible for tax relief.
A contribution API call is then submitted and accepted, as the 5% contribution aligns with the worker’s current tax status.
The worker’s National Insurance number is subsequently received and added to payroll, resulting in future payslips deducting 4% to reflect eligibility for tax relief.
A further contribution API call is submitted but returns an error, as the 4% contribution is lower than the amount expected by the Nest portal, where the worker is still recorded as not eligible for tax relief.
As advised by Nest Pensions, in such circumstances, submitting contribution files with updated worker details will cause "Nest Pension Contribution" task to "Fail" within the PurePro Control Centre.
In line with Nest Pensions’ guidance, users must manually update the worker’s details directly within the Nest Pension Portal to resolve this issue.
Keeping payroll and pension records in sync will help ensure successful contribution submissions and avoid processing errors.
Troubleshooting Nest Pension Integration
While configuring and transmitting data through the Nest Pension Integration, users may encounter errors. PurePro is committed to supporting users in resolving these issues and ensuring the accurate and reliable exchange of pension information between PurePro and Nest.
Please refer to following error codes for further Information -
Nest Error Code IFC01645 - Pension Contributions
When submitting Nest Contributions via API; This error code indicates that one or more workers have opted out in the Nest portal, but this change has not yet been reflected in the payroll.
The error message should confirm that contributions for the remaining workers have been successfully received. If this is the case, no further action is required to resend the data to Nest.
To process the opt-out, navigate to the Worker Details page for each affected worker and select either Opt Out or Cease Membership, as appropriate, within their pension details. For further Information please refer to our Pensions guide.
Any contributions deducted in the current payroll run that were not submitted to Nest must be refunded. To do this, apply refunds using the "Employee" (EE) and "Employer" (ER) Pension Adjustment deductions in the next payroll run. For further information, please refer to our Adjustments & Overrides guide.
To prevent this error in future payrolls, it is recommended to review the Nest portal for opt-out notifications at the start of each payroll run.
